In the face of the escalating challenges posed by disinformation and misinformation in our digital age, a collaborative initiative known as Digital Resilience Against Disinformation (DOMINOES) has been launched. The DOMINOES Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) aims to equip citizens, students, and educators with the tools to bolster their digital resilience against the pervasive spread of false information.

Disinformation has emerged as a pressing issue affecting individuals, institutions, and the overall fabric of society. The DOMINOES initiative, developed in collaboration between the “Mihai Viteazul” National Intelligence Academy in Romania, Ciberimaginario Research Group of the University Rey Juan Carlos in Spain, L-Università ta’ Malta, and the New Strategic Center in Romania, seeks to address this challenge collectively.

The online course, accessible at DOMINOES MOOC, emphasizes the need for social resilience to safeguard public discourse, uphold institutional credibility, and fortify democratic processes against the disruptive influence of disinformation.

“As citizens, we all share the responsibility of combating disinformation and building digital resilience,” states the DOMINOES initiative. “The strategies and techniques employed in disinformation campaigns are evolving and becoming more sophisticated. It is crucial that we, as a society, develop the skills to recognize and counteract misinformation in online environments.”

The DOMINOES MOOC promises participants an in-depth understanding of disinformation in the current technological landscape. It covers the mechanics of disinformation, its impact on society, and strategies to mitigate its effects. The course also delves into the role of social media platforms in the dissemination of online disinformation.

Key learning objectives of the course include gaining a comprehensive perspective on the information environment, recognizing emerging threats from new technologies, enhancing the ability to identify and avoid spreading disinformation online, assessing the societal impact of fake news, and understanding the role of social media platforms in combatting online disinformation.

Furthermore, the course provides insights into crafting counter-narratives and positive narratives to counteract disinformation. Through simulated scenarios, participants will grasp the shared responsibility citizens hold in the fight against disinformation, realizing that individual decisions can either fuel or contain the spread and impact of misinformation on democratic systems.

The DOMINOES MOOC extends an invitation to citizens, students, and educators engaged in social and security sciences, encouraging them to join the course and contribute to the collective effort against disinformation. As the digital landscape evolves, initiatives like DOMINOES play a crucial role in fostering a resilient and informed society.
