KHOLYNSKE, Ukraine – In a rapidly evolving situation in the Kherson region, Ukrainian troops have embarked on an unprecedented ground operation on the left bank, significantly expanding their foothold in the area. Concurrently, Russian forces have launched a renewed offensive near Avdiivka, highlighting the ongoing intensity of the conflict in Eastern Europe.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has been closely monitoring these developments and providing invaluable insights into the dynamic situation on the ground. As per ISW’s latest reports, Ukrainian troops have not only sustained but escalated their ground operations in the Kherson region, securing a strategic position in the village of Krynky.

The village of Krynky, situated about 30 kilometers east of Kherson City and approximately 2 kilometers inland from the Dnipro River shoreline, has become a focal point in the ongoing conflict. Ukrainian forces have reportedly made significant inroads into the village, although they face determined Russian counterattacks. These operations indicate that the Ukrainian military command remains committed to expanding their presence in the Kherson region.

In a parallel development near Avdiivka, Russian forces have launched an offensive push, marking a renewed commitment to offensive operations despite significant materiel and personnel losses. Geolocated footage from October 20 shows Russian forces securing minor advances west of Krasnohorivka, located 5 kilometers north of Avdiivka. The Russian military has also reportedly captured a Ukrainian stronghold near the waste heap just northeast of Avdiivka, advanced to a rail station north of Avdiivka, and moved near the “Tsarska Okhota” restaurant south of Avdiivka.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported successfully repelling Russian attacks near Avdiivka, Novokalynove, Stepove, Pervomaiske (11 kilometers southwest of Avdiivka), and Sieverne. The situation remains highly fluid, with ongoing engagements near Berdychi, 8-10 kilometers northwest of Avdiivka.

ISW has noted the persistence of larger-than-usual Ukrainian ground operations on the east (left) bank of Kherson Oblast. While Russian sources have discussed these operations, the situation remains somewhat contested, with Russian milbloggers and Ukrainian military observers offering differing accounts of events.

Despite the complexity of the situation, ISW maintains that current Ukrainian actions are more substantial than previously observed tactical raids. Geolocated footage suggests that Ukrainian forces continue to maintain a presence along the shoreline and near the Antonivsky railway bridge, even in the face of Russian counterattacks.

As this developing situation unfolds, the world remains vigilant, recognizing the significance of events in the Kherson region for the broader geopolitical landscape. will continue to closely follow this story, providing timely updates and in-depth analysis of the ongoing conflict.
