Saab secures 50 Million EUR order from Poland for Airborne Early Warning


Stockholm, Sweden – Saab, the renowned defence and security company, has been awarded a significant contract by Poland’s Ministry of National Defence for the delivery of two Saab 340 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft. The order, valued at approximately SEK 600 million, is set to span from 2023 to 2025. These advanced early warning systems will be based on the Saab 340 aircraft platform, featuring Saab’s state-of-the-art Erieye radar. The contract also encompasses the provision of ground equipment, as well as in-country logistics and support services.

Having maintained a strong and enduring partnership with the Polish Ministry of National Defence over the years, Saab expressed pride in further bolstering Poland’s Armed Forces through the delivery of their cutting-edge airborne early warning and network-based solutions. Carl-Johan Bergholm, the head of Saab’s business area Surveillance, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing Poland’s defence capabilities.

“Saab has had a strong relationship with the Polish Ministry of National Defence for many years. We are proud to further strengthen Poland’s Armed Forces with our airborne early warning and network-based solutions,” says Carl-Johan Bergholm.

The Saab 340 AEW, in conjunction with the integrated ground equipment, is designed to provide a comprehensive situational overview, serving a wide range of military and civilian applications, including air surveillance and rescue operations. This airborne surveillance system is built around Saab’s highly-regarded Erieye radar, renowned for its reliability and performance.

The Erieye AEW/AEW&C system, offered in various configurations by Saab, has already been adopted by nine countries, making it one of the most widely utilized airborne surveillance systems in the world. The selection of Saab’s technology by numerous nations underscores its effectiveness and versatility in addressing modern security challenges.
